Ms. October, Kelly Della Rosa
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” –Benjamin Franklin
Ever the competitor, Kelly Della Rosa played Division III basketball at Wilkes University. In fact, she met her husband Matt at a basketball game. Kelly was wearing the #35 Frank Thomas White Sox jersey when her husband-to-be, impressed with her taste in sportswear, asked a mutual friend about her.
In 2012, twenty-four year old Kelly discovered a lump during a routine self-exam. “It all happened and so fast, it seemed like a blur.” A mammography confirmed a diagnosis of stage IIb breast cancer. Mastectomy, treatment, and reconstructive surgery later, Kelly is out in front again. Now, Kelly is a cyclist because it was one of the only activities in which she could participate during her recovery. She raises funds and awareness for breast cancer and prevention through Tour to Pink cycling tours and Youth Survival Coalition (www.youngsurvival.org).
Today, the only blur in Kelly’s life is the one her fans see as she spins toward the finish line.
