"INSPIRING WOMEN" ~ IMAGES SERIES #4

In the photo they are opposite in many ways ~ mother at the top and child at the bottom, child upside down and mother facing forward, pink skin and chocolate skin. Yet their arms are united, around one another, bringing them together. This is “Mother Mary’s” inspiring story:

“Since I was very young I couldn’t wait to be a Mother. But as life would have it, my personal relationships hadn’t yet provided an appropriate opportunity. I felt my desire to be a mother shouldn’t depend on me being in a relationship or marriage. 

So I lived my life — traveled and had fun in my twenties. Received my bachelor’s degree. Became a nurse. Went back to school for my master’s degree. In my early thirties over a ten-year period, I dedicated two weeks of every year to do volunteer medical work in Mexico.

Then it was my time to have what I always wanted. I tried artificial insemination and after major medical expenses, endless doctor visits and medical procedures I was left dejected and childless. I decided to become a foster parent in hopes of some day adopting. 

My precious baby came to me on June 5, 2009. At 18 months old she was unkept, non-verbal and could barely stand, let alone walk. I was ready to love and nurture her.

Today she is a vibrant, energetic, happy and healthy four-year old child. So full of LIFE. I legally adopted Taya Belle on March 9, 2011. People often say she is a very lucky girl to have me, but truth be told my life is beyond blessed and I thank God every day for sending her to me. Together we are one.”
